Motorcycle Trip to Moab Utah May 30, 2019 through June 14th, 2019
A map of the (meandering) Route we took down to Moab and the more direct route back home. Total distance was about 3,400+ miles. Of course, the best roads are the ones that are the least used :-). Minimal
super slab for the trip down. The K1600 is the choice for long distance as it is the most comfortable. The trip down to Moab took seven days but that included going through Great Basin and Capitol Reef.
That said, this is the trip where the final leg was a 'get home in one day' trip
longer distance ... Next I have to try for the
Iron Butt ride of 1,000 miles.
MOST of the route is 2 lane roads, always look at
Butler Maps for the BEST motorcycle / twisties / 'lonesome highways' notes.
It was a fantastic ride, as might be expected some rain but mostly sunshine. I CAREFULLY looked at the calendar and (by luck) chose a week that:
1) The Chinook pass was open (usually open by Memorial Day, see
Chinook Pass page for more information about the Chinook pass specifically)
2) The weather was not TOO rainy (although we did run into some)
3) The temperature at Moab wasn't too hot (the week after it was triple digits)
IMPORTANT!!!! TAKE THESE SIGNS SERIOUSLY!!!!! You are in the Sparsely Populated West, while you may 'have always depended on the kindness of strangers' if they aren't around to give you gas then you are SOL. If you THINK you need gas and you see a gas station GET GAS!:
