Motorcycle Trip Palouse Scenic Byway and Snoqualmie Pass May 8, 2022
The day started by riding down out from Spokane and into the Palouse Scenic Byway. As you go west you will start to see Wind Turbines turning. This is your first reminder that you will certainly encounter wind. WHENEVER you go in or out of a pass (specifically on I-90 near Ellensburg) you will ususally have high winds.
This video is the ride from Spokane, through Palouse and over the pass. About a 5 hour ride, part of my 'Slow TV' videos.
After you get off I-90 Eastern Washington is full of long two lane roads with very little traffic and big open sky. Quiet and peaceful. The Palouse Scenic Byway is always pretty. If you catch it in spring like I did on this ride you see green at the start of the byway, in the fall more tan and brown.
The green phase of the Palouse Parkway near Diamond, WA:
Further on the landscape is more mixed between green and semi-ard, some canyons. As you go down Highway 26 there are rest stops like this one near Othello WA. Big open skies, enough rest stops to get out, look around and stretch your legs:
In this part of the state there is a large Hispanic population, lots of family restaurants, I like stopping at Checo's Mexican Grill for lunch (obligatory bike-in-picture picture :-)):
And then you see the wind turbines, this is at a rest stop near Kittitas, WA, after I got back on I-90, just to stretch my legs. Now the wind starts getting serious:
Riding the pass is always pretty, high mountain lakes and still some snow at the top of Snoqualmie Pass, and then back home.
