Motorcycle Ride from Avila Beach California down to Los Angeles to start Route 66, to Barstow California, on to Seligman AZ, and then to Casino route 66 near Albuquerque New Mexico - 20250616 - 20250618

A playlist of all of the videos from the ride of 2025-06-12 to 2025-07-01. Some of the playlist is hours of just riding, i.e. Slow TV videos, some are just short clips.

This is a Route 66 Slow TV ride from the 'National Trails' Apple Valley, CA to the Petrified Forest, outside of Albuquerque covering the three days on this page.

June 16 - From Avila Beach California down to Los Angeles to start Route 66, to Barstow California

I had planned in riding US1, but that will have to wait for another time. The US1 waypoints I put in took me through towns, 15 MPH and 25 MPH sections and I knew that I still had Los Angeles to get through. After Baycliff Village I jumped on Hwy 101 to make better time.

Got to the starting sign in Los Angeles, started my trip to arrive about 9 AM, the traffic was tolerable on Hwy 101 at that time of the morning:

The next several hours were spent getting through Los Angeles, add about 2 hours to your estimation for the day to get through all the traffic and stoplights. Got to Cajon Blvd, an example of the road is there but you can't go on it. Off to the right I could see the old Route 66 but there were barriers preventing travel on it. Finally in the afternoon I was out of LA and onto Highway 15, then on to 'D' Avenue and the 'National Trails' road. The heat for the day wasn't too bad yet. Maybe in the 90 plus degrees F range but when moving on the motorcycle that was workable.

The desert at Barstow California at the KOA I stopped for the night (which pretty much looks like the Mojave desert):

June 17 - Riding from Barstow California, on to Seligman AZ:

This was the start of the desert ride, 95 degrees to 106 degrees F. The Triumph took it all in stride, temperature gauge never went above mid range. I would prefer the heat to any kind of storms. Sweat dries off, soaking rains get you cold AND the suit takes forever to dry. The Mojave desert from a gas station I stopped at:

The ride was some 70 MPH highway, some on the old Route 66 roads. The most memorable was going to and through Oatman. Riding UP to Oatman there were herds of mules all OVER the place, ride slow & ride carful. The tourists like to stop and feed the donkeys so they just stand around ON the road. Unfortunately my shoulder camera didn't capture riding trhough the herds, but the donkeys took it all in stride, no kicking or erratic behaviour:

But the twisties AFTER Oatman were fantastic, just after getting through Oatman at the 03:33:35 mark in the video.

June 18 - Riding Seligman AZ to Casino Route 66 outside Albuquerque:

The Petrified National Park is along this route, definitely a detour not to miss (and add a new pin to my jacket). The Painted Desert:

Petroglyphs that are 600 to 1,100 years old:

The Blue Mesa, my pictures do not even BEGIN to do it justice:

Tree in the Petrified Forest:

From the park I went back to Route 66 / I-40 and on to the Casino. I am not a fan of casino's, and this was the usual fare, good enough food but not cheap. At least there wasn't smoking inside.
