Motorcycle Trip to Sturgis SD for the 80th annual Sturgis Rally. August 04, 2020 Thru August 13, 2020.
A map of the route we took over to Sturgis, South Dakota for the 80th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Coming home we detoured through Yellowstone. Total distance was about 3,500 miles. Cody and his wife on their Harley Street Glide, me on the Harley Heritage. No trailering of bikes to the rally for us (although I saw plenty of that when I got there). As you can see 3,500 miles in 10 days. Not much socializing. Mostly riding. I was tested a few weeks later for antibodies after giving blood, none present. Obviously we took enough precautions. Nobody got sick.
Since Cody had a
pillion he had that extra consideration. He also took on the task of route mapping and lead. That is also an additional burden of 'Pilot Workload' he took on that I appreciated.
IMPORTANT!!!! TAKE THESE SIGNS SERIOUSLY!!!!! You are in the Sparsely Populated West, while you may 'have always depended on the kindness of strangers' if they aren't around to give you gas then you are SOL. If you THINK you need gas and you see a gas station GET GAS!:

- Trip Day Six August 9, 2020: Motorcycle Fixin' ... I spent the day going between the Automotive store and the hotel getting parts to:
- Figure out why I lost power to my GPS / Voltmeter
- Found the Battery Tender Fused Ring Terminal Harness had broken where the harness connects to the terminal, needed a new one
- A couple of trips to the store to purchase a new Battery Tender Terminal Harness, a set of pliers and then a wire so that I could pull the passenger seat nut back up through the hole after it dropped out (the nut dropping out has happened a few times, now permanently fixed)
- ... In the end not an issue with the Harley, which has gotten me home / where I wanted to go every time. No complaints.
- Lastly, motorcyclists DO follow rules if the rule makes sense, if it is for their own safety, if they don't want to be stopped and fined (helmet laws) or if they don't want to be thrown out of an establishment. Sign at one of the saloons in Sturgis spelling out the rules → → → → → → → → →
