Motorcycle Trip from Cody, WY through Yellowstone to Idaho Falls, ID August 11, 2020
A playlist of all of the videos from the ride from August 4 thru August 13th.
A to visit Yellowstone. As always peace for the soul. From my experience the fall has fewer animals wandering around that the springtime. A warning, → → PLEASE DO NOT go NEAR THE ANIMALS!!!! ← ← Follow the Yellowstone Park Ranger Admonitions. Buffalo are NOT large cows, they are cantankerous LARGE beasts that see YOU as a DANGEROUS PREDATOR (which you are). They get nervous around you and WILL attack YOU! Enough preaching. The only issue with visiting in the springtime you have to deal with colder weather and after school gets out a packed park, but again animals are more plentiful. Also, if you want to ride Beartooth Pass (a fantastic ride, usually open around the end of May) be sure to look for opening dates of the pass.
We rode into the park from the Cody WY entrance, a video of the ride to the first overlook of Yellowstone Lake.
View looking at Yellowstone Lake, huge impressive lake. You can see the trees starting to grow back from maybe the fires of 1988? I am not sure. Still an impressive lake ... And as you can see there are vehicles ... ALWAYS cars and motorcycles, relax. Slow it down. No fast riding here:
As a side note you don't have to be SUPER conscious about gas, Yellowstone Park has cafeterias, gas and snacks (and some service) available at places like the Fishing Bridge, but there are multiple sites across Yellowstone. As a side note the car service station at Fishing Bridge will TRY to help you with motorcycle issues but in the end if they can't help get your bike fixed, for example when my Sprint broke down, I rented a U-Haul trailer in Cody and trailered my bike to Cody Custom Cycle. HIGHLY recommended establishment work on your bike, they fix all bikes not just Harleys.
Next we went to Old Faithful to see the eruption (You HAVE to do that, right?). They have a web site that tells you when the next geyser is ESTIMATED to be, helps you gauge when to visit:
We had lunch (out door, socially distanced to get into and through the cafeteria line). Next we went to the Grand Prismatic Spring walking around. We probably spent as much time walking around the springs as we did at Old Faithful. They have AMAZING colors:
More and more:
Finally we rode out the exit to West Yellowstone. From there we went to Idaho Falls for our lodgings for the night.
